St Hilliers undertook construction of the 20,000 sq m organic fertilizer manufacturing and warehouse facility comprising 10,000 sq m composting area, process area, warehousing and a 300 sq m administration building.
The extremely corrosive environment created by the material used to produce the fertiliser required the facility to be constructed using mainly inert materials. This included more than 28,000 sq m of stainless steel roof and wall cladding as well as 700 tonnes of structural steel, 15,000 sq m of concrete paving and 8,000 sq m of asphalt.
The 10,000 sq m enclosed composting area features a steel portal frame with a 50 m clear span to ridge. The perimeter walls of the building were constructed with 3 m high pre cast concrete panels above which stainless steel cladding is attached 8 m at eaves and 12 m at ridge. A 40 m clear span building houses the process area and the warehouse was also constructed using a steel portal frame and colour bond cladding.
St Hilliers also connected the facility to the Wyee water supply and installed a separate sewerage system for the site. Waste water is utilised on site for irrigation of the landscaped gardens.
