The project objective was to design and construct a widened and hardened bushfire trail along the Old Brown Route track in order to meet the requirements of the SWBTA BMP. The scope of works included the construction of 14 km of fire trail capable of supporting a Category 1 firefighting appliance as specified by the Department of Defence and the conduct of heavy maintenance grading along the northern 2.5km of the fire trail.
These works included but were not limited to:

- Restoration washouts and erosion sites along the length of the route,
- Construction of a 4m wide pavement capable of supporting a Category 1 firefighting appliance,
- Construction of creek crossings along the length of the route,
- Construction of erosion control contour banks along the length of the route.
- Construction of turnaround bays at 500m intervals (where possible) along the length of the route.
- Conduct of a heavy maintenance grade along the length of the route including adding up to 50mm of top-up material to the pavement.
