Halinda School for Special Purposes was the second Private Public Partnership school project constructed by St Hilliers, and due to the special purposes requirements of the School, it was the most complex of the PPP schools projects awarded to St Hilliers in December 2005.
Halinda School demonstrates high quality, innovative design and construction, providing effective learning environments and meeting disability requirements.
St Hilliers was responsible for the master-planning, development and statutory approvals, design development, construction delivery, compliance and handover of the special needs school. St Hilliers was responsible for certification of the project ensuring it complied with NSW DET specifications for special purposes schools, all statutory laws and BCA requirements.
St Hilliers provided full site infrastructure of the 16,500sqm site, including power, electrical, data, hydraulics and stormwater and the construction of more than 2,647 square metres of buildings to accommodate approximately 120 children. Construction of the facilities involved a combination of reinforced concrete and lightweight steel framing construction.
The school facilities include five buildings containing; 16 classrooms, library, administration facilities, school community hall, hydrotherapy pool, play ground, games courts areas, internal and external withdrawal areas and on ground car parking for 32 cars. St Hilliers accelerated the program to complete construction four weeks prior to the practical completion date, ensuring a seamless handover to compliment the 2007 academic year.
