St Hilliers was appointed the Contractor for the design and construction of 2 new ARFF Fire Stations at Gladstone QLD and Newman WA ($15 million value total). Due to the success of these projects, Airservices Australia also appointed St Hilliers as Contractor for the design and construction of an additional ARFF Fire Station in Ballina NSW.
The new ARFF facilities are modular in nature, allowing them to be dismantled, transported and reassembled at other sites if required. The scope involved:
- Initial civil and ground works including footings and foundations, as well as the in-ground services and complete installation of the concrete slabs.
- The manufacture of the modular and flat pack building components in Brisbane, and then transport of these components to site.
- The erection and construction of these components on site, and then the fit-out and installation of minor services
- External works including the pavements, wash down bays, fuel, foam hazardous storage tanks and landscaping
Works were completed within an active Airport and must comply with strict Aviation Industry Security requirements. All St Hilliers personnel carried ASIC clearances, and access within and between Landside and Airside areas was tightly controlled by security measures.
