Complete refurbishment and fitout of the heritage listed Edmund Barton Building in Canberra into ‘A Grade’ office accommodation to centralise an expanding workforce of over 2000 Australian Federal Police (AFP) employees.
The fitout spanned across 45,000 square metres of office space over five floors and a basement level. St Hilliers was also required to provide a special facility for the Attorney General, a secure operations facility and server rooms, and infrastructure and services redundancies to support uninterrupted operations. Works also included the installation of a new generator back up system and passive and physical security installations to the perimeter of the building.
Extensive services works were undertaken by St Hilliers with data communications reaching in excess of 1,500km of Cat6A FTP cable, 82km of Fibre Cable, 143 High Density Patch Frames and 13,000 patch fly leads.
Careful planning and coordination was required by St Hilliers as base building systems had to remain operational during installation of new equipment. The highly sensitive nature of the AFP functions required St Hilliers to comply with top secret rating requirements. St Hilliers undertook a high level of acoustic treatments to meeting rooms and other areas to comply with AFP operational requirements and external accreditation.
